SUMMARY:NYU Center for French Language presents “La Sonothèque Nomade” at Africa House
DESCRIPTION:NYU Center for French Language presents “La Sonothèque Nomade” at Africa House – April 4-5\, 2019\nThe Center for French Language and Cultures is happy to invite you to La Sonothèque Nomade – an artistic residency and musical event on Thursday and Friday\, April 4-5\, 2019. La Sonothèque Nomade is a lively\, nomadic\, and poetic space of listening and recording with a global outlook\, collecting songs and lullabies from somewhere or other\, accompanied by accounts and recordings. The sum of these portraits build up to create a gallery of portraits\, intended to enrich the Sonothèque. \nThis program is part of the Le Festival des cinq continents\, an annual literary event\, organized in partnership with the international organization of La Francophonie. \nA Nomadic Experience\nCreated in 2018 by performer and musician Carine Henry\, in collaboration with actor and theatre director Jérôme Bouvet\, the goal of the sound library is to record songs and lullabies in as many languages as possible. They meet people in their home or in a public space and record contributions\, following up with an interview afterwards to better understand the link that ties the singer to the song. The Sonothèque Nomade recorded songs in France and in Switzerland\, and their 2-day residency at NYU Africa House will be their first residency within the Americas. The full extent of their work will be later presented at the Paléo Festival\, the biggest open-air music festival of Switzerland\, in July 2020. \nAt NYU\, the Sonothèque Nomade will record songs and lullabies from students and professors. \nThe NYU Center for French language and Cultures is a creative partner of the Sonothèque Nomade. \nWhen & Where\nNYU Africa House\, 44 Washington Mews\, New York\, NY 10003 \nApril 4\, 2019 1:00pm – 5:00pm \nApril 5\, 2019 9:00am – 12:00pm \nArt Direction\nJérôme Bouvet and Carine Henry \nFor more info about the Sonothèque Nomade project\, please visit https://www.lafaussecompagnie.fr \nFor more info about the Sonothèque Nomade’s residency at NYU\, please contact Guillaume Parodi at gp70@nyu.edu or (212) 998 8758. \nVisit the NYU Arts and Science page for more information: https://as.nyu.edu/content/nyu-as/as/research-centers/frenchcenter/festival5continents/schedule0/sononomade.html \n\nCo-Host\nThe NYU Center for French Language and Cultures exists to promote academic and cultural activity relating to the French-speaking world at New York University\, and to foster exchange between the University and French and Francophone communities. It serves the French Department\, the Institute of French Studies and La Maison Française\, and maintains close ties with NYU-Paris\, coordinating with all four. Recognized as a Center of Excellence by the French Embassy\, it also collaborates with their Cultural Services on French and Francophone-related academic and cultural projects. The NYU Center for French Language and Cultures organizes at least one annual conference\, hosts the regular series “Machines à écrire”\, and has invited a regular stream of distinguished visitors to lecture at NYU. It also sponsors events relating to French and Francophone academic and cultural life organized by other members of the NYU community. The Center is eager to expand its ties with other departments and programs at NYU. It was first founded in 1978 by Professor Tom Bishop who was its director from then until 2016.
