AFRICAN WARS IN THE 21ST CENTURY: ECONOMIC AND SECURITY DETERMINANTS FOR A STABLE CONTINENT WORKSHOP REPORT

Exploring local and regional economic and security determinants for a more stable and prosperous Africa, a virtual workshop, part of the African Wars in the 21st Century project, was conveyed on April 14, 2023, moderated by CSAAD’s Postdoctoral Fellow (2021-2023) and Non-Resident Fellow at the Center for Global Affairs, Dr. Olajumoke Ayandele and Assistant Professor at Salve Regina University, Dr. Yvan Ilunga. This event was organized by CSAAD, in collaboration with the Center for Global Affairs, the Initiative for the Study of Emerging Threats, NYU Africa House, the Joint Civil-Military Interaction (JCMI) Research Education Network, and Salve Regina University

This report aims to provide a forward-looking perspective by discussing the presentations from each workshop session, identifying current and emerging trends, related to security and development in Africa, as well as opportunities for local, state, and regional actors to collaborate and be accountable in reimagining regional security and economic development.

AFRICAN WARS IN THE 21ST CENTURY: POST-COVID-19 EMERGING TRENDS CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES WORKSHOP REPORT

The pandemic presents an opportunity for Africa to reassess the strengths of its current institutions. On October 6, 2021, a workshop was held, inviting participants to focus on the dynamics imposed by the pandemic on institutions, communities, and governance across the region. The three workshop sessions were moderated by CSAAD’s Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Postdoctoral Fellow, Dr. Olajumoke Ayandele, and Assistant Professor at Salve Regina University, Dr. Yvan Ilunga. This event was organized by CSAAD, in collaboration with the Center for Global Affairs, the Initiative for the Study of Emerging Threats, the Joint Civil-Military Interaction (JCMI) Research Education Network, and the Center on International Cooperation. 

This report is designed to be forward-looking and discusses the various presentations from each workshop session, identifying current and emerging trends, as well as opportunities for local, state, and regional stakeholders in building a stable and prosperous Africa in a post-COVID-19 world.
